Both Heather and Mike have travelled extensively, incorporating many features into Nicara Lakeside Lodge, aiming for the best bed and breakfast accommodation in Rotorua, where informality is paramount.
Well known in tourism circles, Mike has spent over 50 years in the New Zealand travel and tourism industry. Twenty-five of which were spent running his own international tourism marketing company.
Mike shares his passion for the Ngongotaha/Rotorua area with guests. Ensuring they get the maximum enjoyment out of the time they have available. Heather shares Mike’s enthusiasm for the region and always provides those little extra things that make the difference.
Complementing their aims are the remarks on Trip Advisor. “Wonderful stay,” “great hosts, genuine, warm, hospitable,” “extremely welcoming,” and “perfect place to relax & unwind” to quote just some of the enthusiastic comments.
Frequently asked, is the origin of the name NICARA. Quite simple really, Mike and Heather have two daughters: NICola and SARA

Heather and Mike's Community Involvement
Heather and Mike are deeply involved in the community they love.
Heather, a Church Elder, has served as Treasurer of Progress Ngongotaha (community group), President of a local speaker/luncheon club, and secretary/treasurer of the Rotorua Branch of the Bed & Breakfast Association of New Zealand.
Mike is a Trustee of the Rotorua Museum Centennial Trust and a Church Elder. He has also served as a Member of the Rotorua Tourism Board, on the Executive of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce, 2 years as Vice President and a New Zealand Business Mentor.
